Transverse baby at 37 weeks..?

So I went to the doctor today and found out that my baby is in transverse position, with her back facing my cervix. I will be 37 weeks on Sunday. She scheduled me to come in the Monday after Christmas for a follow up ultrasound at which point she says we will be talking about "options." I already know that I will not attempt to have a doctor manually "turn" the baby because my doctor informed me that this means seeing a "high risk" doctor, extreme discomfort, and that it comes with the increased risk of fetal distress. So if she has not turned by the Monday after Christmas we will be scheduling a C-section. Have any of you mommies out there had a transverse baby that turned head first right at the last minute? OR when did you have your c-section, and what is it like? I am so scared now because this is not the way I envisioned my baby being born. It's been an upsetting day and I honestly need some words of encouragement. Thanks for reading.
