Are poets/novelists more perceptive than 'ordinary' people?

Do you think that novelists and poets, or just writers in general are more perceptive than the rest of us? Is it that their perceptive nature led them to follow their line of work, or that they developed this perception because of being a novelist/poet? Do you think that they are more perceptive about the people that they surround themselves with, and other things like nature etc, or more important worldly issues? I'd like to hear your thoughts, thanks.
