Animal Farm...what are your thoughts about it???
Well, it isnt just about a "bunch of animals". The very clever Mr Orwell disguised each animal to a figure of the Bolshevic Revolution of 1917. For example, the Jones's represent the Tzars or Czars of Russia prior to the revolt. Old Major is representative of Karl Marx the author of the Communist Manifesto. Napolean, is Stalin and his dogs are the KGB (the secret police). Even Boxer, he represents the working cl of the USSR, and so do some of the other unfortunate animal characters. Snowball is Lenin or Trotsky, sorry but I cant remember and even the pigeons, they represent the iron curtain which was a mive media ploy by the government at the time which aimed to spread propaganda among others. Golly, who else is in the book, Moses - the church, etc. Also the descriptioon of the flag resemples very closely the crescent moon and star flag of communism etc. So it is a very well-thought out book which I personally think is importnt for understanding Modern History on a more personal and different level. Also Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-Four" is great too. I think that Animal Farm leaves you with the thought of "War is Peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength". - G. Orwell ["Nineteen Eighty-Four"].
